My best skincare routine for clearer skin

Updated: Apr 27, 2019

I have struggled for a long long time with spots, and have tried just about every single product out there for clearing breakouts. Since I was about 12, it seemed like I was the only one with any spots and it’s taken since then to figure out what actually works. Thankfully, I’m very lucky that my mum knows a lot about skincare and could guide me in the right directions and shown me it’s worth investing in your skin. A few years ago, I had some skin peels and my skin has majorly calmed down since but I still get the odd complete breakout and regular spots and these are the very few products I have found that actually work.

Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash- £36.56

The. Best. Face wash. Ever. I have used this face wash for as long as I can remember, and it takes a lot to steer me away from it. Any product from the Medibac Clearing range is worth getting tbh. They actually work. It helps clear excess oil, without leaving your face feeling tight and helps prevent future breakouts with Salicylic acid to exfoliate dead skin and clear pores. This cleanser is quite strong, so I found it also works really well mixing it up, E.G using this at night and another one like the Alumier cleanser I mentioned before in the morning.

Kate Somerville EradiKate Daily Foaming Cleanser- £32 (Space NK)

I’m still in the process of trying this, but I’ve included it because I’m really liking it. It’s super soft and because of the strength, you only need a tiny amount each time so it’s lasting pretty well. It’s different to other cleansers I’ve tried because it’s a whipped texture, but has 3% sulphur to clear oil, blemishes, breakouts, reduce sebum and unblock pores and still somehow manages to leave my skin feeling soft.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% – £5

Trust me when I say this is one of the best, if not the best product I have ever used to clear my skin- and it’s only £5 (I literally still can’t believe it). I use this after cleansing and before moisturising and it has given me my clearest skin yet. It helps reduce spots and prevents future breakouts and blackheads by regulating sebum  and leaves my skin feeling smooth, looking less red and more hydrated. I use this at night (you can use am + pm) with my Alumier moisturiser and I noticed a difference after the first use.

Alumier Hydraclarite (check local Alumier stockist)

Really the best moisturiser ever and I don’t want to ever not use it. There aren’t many products that will clear your skin without drying it out but this is one. It’s rich in antioxidants and natural ingredients to reduce redness- which is a big problem for me. This, with The Ordinary serum I mentioned above, are the best products to clear my skin and nothing has ever worked as well. This is also great under make up as it’s really light and absorbs quickly.
